Match Report v Kew Park Rangers Away 10/02/08 lost 4-1

Feltham produced their worst performance of the season as they went down to KPR on a glorious spring morning in Kew. Playing against a taller and more physical side, too many players were off their game this morning and we lost the 50-50 battles all over the pitch.

Feltham started the brighter team and had the home side pressed back in their own half for the first quarter of the game. As so often happens with us, Kew scored with their first attack when their centre forward was left with an open goal after a missed clearance. Feltham battled back and a great bit of football between Kain, Jack and Turnell saw the latter slot home the equaliser. For some reason we then completely went off our game as the home side stepped up the pressure and minutes before half time some more hesitation in the Feltham defence saw Kew take a 2-1 half time lead. Such is the standard in this division this season that the slightest mistakes are punished and as a result we trailed at the break.

Kew were soon on top in the second period and within five minutes were 3-1 up as they cut us open down our left for an easy tap in. We were still in the game at this point but a 4th goal on the half way mark when we were caught with a high line up the pitch saw any hope of a recovery dashed. We now enjoyed our best period of the game as for the final 15 minutes we pinned Kew in their half and Lee went close with a shot that hit the post and Nathan also went close. There were also a couple of goal mouth scrambles but we could not add to out tally.

Kew were therefore worthy winners and although we played some good football this was no consoliation on a deeply frustrating morning.

We are learning a hard lesson this season in that there is not one easy team in this league and everyone can beat everyone on their day. We need to toughen up a bit and also to play more football as too many times we were just hoofing it today. We have 7 games left this season which will all be hard however the one consolation today was that all the teams around us also lost.

Thanks as always to our merry band of supporters who come and watch the boys through thick and thin. Thanks to Steve for running the line and. Finally thanks to Dave and the Kew team for a good sporting game and we look forward to the return fixture in April at Feltham Park.
