v Meadow Sports 02/12/07 Lost 4-2
Feltham travelled to Woking to play Meadow Sports on a chilly wet windy day but produced a good battling performance and were unfortunate to come away without anything. Our work rate could not be faulted today and we kept going right to the end when we had two good chances to score.
On a gluepot of a pitch with a strong wind Feltham made a good start to the game and the sides were evenly matched as they both produced some good football. Midway through the half Turnell opened the scoring with a great shot that sailed over the keepers head after he had beaten two defenders. Meadow upped their game and put the Whites under pressure but we seemed to be coping well until a long shot found its way into the net. Meadow took the lead when their left winger fired a good shot into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area. Feltham continued to play some nice football and battled away to try and get the equaliser. Meadow took a 2-1 lead into half time.
Feltham continued the good work after the break and Jack and Leon began to dominate the centre of the park but we just couldn’t make the final ball through to our two strikers count. Each time the Meadow centre half made crucial interceptions to stop our runs through on goal. Meadow took a 3-1 lead when a log shot drifted into the corner of he net. This galvanised the Whites to up the tempo and we soon pulled a goal back when Leon skipped past three defenders and fired over the keepers head . Turnell then went close to the equaliser as his shot just missed the far post. With ten minutes remaining the Whites went three at the back to try and get the equaliser and were then caught out as a long ball was met by the Meadow centre forward whose shot came back off the post straight to another forward who despatched it between defenders to make it 4-2. The Whites were not finished and had two good late chances when Jack was just unable to convert Lee’s cross and then Lee couldn’t direct his shot on goal after he outpaced the home defence. The final whistle blew with a 4-2 defeat for the boys.
This was another good performance today and all the boys gave their all. We had a bit of bad luck as well but we were beaten by a very good side who play some good football and were in the Premier Elite last season. We matched them for all of the game and can be proud of our performance. Next we face another tough game against our friends from Whitton Wanderers and we look forward to entertaining Gary and the boys.
Thank you to all the parents today for your support on a horrible morning. Thanks to Steve for running the line and to the Referee for a good performance. Finally thanks to John and his Meadow team for an excellent game of Football played in a friendly manner and we look forward to seeing you next year.
