v Kingstonians 18/11/07 lost 6-5 Away
What a difference a fortnight makes as Feltham followed up their best performance of the season two weeks ago against Epsom with their worst performance against Kingstonians at Dinton Field on a chilly windy morning.
A very small pitch saw some poor defending, not just from the back five but the whole team, and as a result Kingstonians were 6-3 up at half time. Credit to the boys for their second half performance that saw us claw back to 6-5 but our first half performance gave us too much of a mountain to climb. The Whites took the lead when John Jo stabbed home from close range early in the game but Kingstonians then scored two quick goals before a good volley from Lee levelled the scores again. Back came the Reds and they moved into a 4-2 lead before Lee pulled one back. At this stage the game was end to end with both sides looking as though they would score with each attack. Kingstonians added two more before half time , the 6th right on half time when a free kick came off the bar and just over Ryan’s head.
Half time saw some harsh words delivered and The Whites came out in the second half with a better performance that saw first Lee complete his hat trick before Turnell pulled the score back to 6-5. The last 10 minutes saw Feltham camped in the opposition half as they sought the equaliser but time just ran out.
As a coach I would rather have lost this 0-1 than 5-6 and this result once again shows that we need to put some hard work in on the training ground on our defensive work. The two week break did us no favours as we were building up a head of steam with two straight wins. We must try and get some consistency going as this season we seem to be going from a good performance to a not so good one on a weekly basis. On the positive side the boys showed good character in the second half to score two goals without reply and the opposition were clinging on at the end. Next week we have the return game with Manorcroft and we will have to increase our level of performance as they will be looking to hit back against us.
Thanks to Steve for running the line and all the parents for their support. Thanks to Jim and the boys for a great game of football, hopefully we wont be so charitable in the return game.
