Feltham entertained 2nd place Meadow Sports at Feltham Park this morning on a pleasant but windy day and produced a magnificent performance against a very good team. The squad were missing Jack and Charlie today as we enter the final quarter of the season.

Feltham attacked the arena end in the first period and were against the strong wind. As a result Meadow had us pinned back in our own half for most of the early part of the game and we had to rely on the odd counter attack and try and get Lee and Turnell to run at the quick Meadow defence. Lee did manage it on one occasion but a brilliant last ditch tackle just as he was about to shoot forced a corner. Feltham were defending in numbers and making some strong tackles. Halfway through the first period a shot from the edge of the Feltham box evaded all our defenders and hit the post and went in to give the visitors a deserved half time lead on the balance of play.

The second half was a different story as Feltham made good advantage of the wind. Ten minutes into the second half a brilliant 20 yard half volley from Lee found the top corner to level things up following a great drop kick from Ryan that the Meadow defence could not deal with. Feltham were now taking the game to Meadow who were still dangerous on the break. Lee went through clear of the defence but his chip was well saved by the Meadow keeper who then made another good one on one save from the same player. Both teams had chances to win it near the end and the Meadow keeper had to make a last minute stop to prevent Nathan from winning all three points for Feltham.

The game finished all square and was probably a fair result on balance of play although we were disappointed not to have won with the good chances we created in the second period. All the boys were excellent again today and displayed a real fighting spirit . We have only suffered one defeat in five now and have put the consistency in that we were lacking earlier in the season. You were all a credit to Feltham Youth FC today, well played all of you.

Thanks to the parents today for your continued support for the boys and also thanks to Doug for reffing and Steve for running the line. Nick acted as assistant coach today in Ian’s absence and thanks to him for that. Thanks to Pete’s Varney and Morris for putting posts up and helping with the pitch and well done to you both on your results today. Finally thanks to John and the Meadow boys for an excellent competitive game of football. We have had two great games with Meadow this season and we look forward to playing you again next season.
