Junior Bees 2 v Feltham Youth 3
The Blues maintained their quest for the Runners up spot in Division 1 with a hard earned 3-2 victory in Ealing against Junior Bees. With a late kick off at 1.00 pm the Blues arrived to find a large pitch with a sticky surface and a stiff wind.
Feltham won the toss and defended the strong wind in the first half. Once again the opposition were in the lead early as Feltham failed to clear a Bees corner which resulted in an own goal. The Blues are used to this position and were level in the 15th minute when Nathan’s free kick found the top corner from the edge of the box after Leon had been fouled. Turnell then scored a fine individual goal to put the Blues 2-1 up and the game was mainly contested in the midfield as both teams struggled to come to terms with the heavy surface and large pitch. The Blues went close to extending their lead on a couple of occasions however half time saw the visitors ahead by 2-1.
With the wind at their backs Feltham began to dominate the second half and Turnell and Anthony both went close, the home goalkeeper pulling off a couple of good saves to keep the Bees in the game. The home side rarely troubled the Blues defence and the crucial third goal soon arrived when Nathan , on his birthday , crashed home an unstoppable 25 yarder that fizzed into the top corner. A late lapse in defence saw the home side pull a late goal back but Feltham held firm to win the points in a good team effort .
Not the prettiest of games today but we showed great teamwork and desire to win the points. Everybody should be pleased with their contributions and there were some fine individual performances. We must try and cut out the early gift of a goal to the opposition but an encouraging display in our attempt to secure the Runners up spot. Well done everybody.
Thanks to all the parents for their support in the wind and rain. Thanks to Billy for running the line and coaching. A big thanks to the Referee who had a good match and to Drew and his Junior Bees who gave us a really competitive match played in a sporting manner. Next week we are away to Samba Youth.
Scorers - Nathan 2 , Turnell
