There was tension in the air at the start of this local derby. Both sides started brightly and had chances to score. Feltham scored first with a goal for Ryan Dingle, his first ever goal! It was a closely fought contest and Feltham went in 1 -0 up at half time. The second half started with Feltham on top and from a corner the ball was cleared by a Hampton defender to just outside the centre circle. Ben attacked the ball as all good defenders should and smashed the ball past the startled Hampton keeper. He must have been 30-35 yards out a truly stunning goal. Unfortunately this seemed to force Hampton into action and in a frantic final 15 minutes they were able to pull two goals back and the game finished 2-2. It was a great game between two closely matched sides.
Managers View
Managers cliché of the week “If I’d been offered 2 -2 before the game I would have taken it”. This is probably true but it doesn’t hide the disappointment of losing a 2 goal lead. I know what these boys are capable of it is just a question of making them believe it. Being 2 - 0 up against a strong, unbeaten Hampton side seemed to make us nervous. It is all part of the process and the boys will learn to see a game out. It was a great performance and one all the boys should be proud of. It was another step in the right direction. I would like thank the Hampton ref, he was fair, commanded respect without being over zealous and was quite simply the best we’ve had for an away game.
